Tamil Nadu: TNCSC union resents moisture content restriction for procurement of paddy

The Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation AITUC has resented the uniform moisture content rule adopted for the procurement of paddy throughout the country.

In a statement here on Friday, TNCSC AITUC State General Secretary C. Chandrakumar said that paddy procurement in the State other than Tamil Nadu took place during summer season. In Tamil Nadu, farmers harvested their paddy during rainy and winter seasons.

Thus, the moisture content regulation which stipulates that paddy grains with less than 17% should alone be procured by the TNCSC affect farmers. Hence, the State government should be empowered to decide on the moisture content regulation and the Union government should endorse the same, he added.
