Paddy worth 1.8cr procured on MSP goes missing in Rewa
In an apparent scam, paddy worth around Rs 1.83 crore, claimed to be procured at MSP from farmers, was found missing at a procurement centre in Rewa district.This matter surfaced during the inspection of Sewa Shahkari Samiti Sohagi number 1, in Rewa. A case has been filed and a probe is on.It is learnt that the paddy was procured only on paper, and not only was the paddy missing, but more than 10,000 gunny bags required for packing that ‘imaginary’ paddy were also missing.
Inspection of the centre was carried out on Jan 12 and Jan 13. The inspection report said a total of 70,847.20 quintals of paddy was procured at the centre, and out of those, 54,342.40 quintals were transported. The remaining 17,093.14 quintals should have been present at the centre.
The report states that at the rate of 2.5 gunny bags for every quintal of paddy, there should have been 42,732 gunny bags for 17,093.14 quintals of paddy, but only 29,866 gunny bags were found during the inspection. The report states that these gunny bags only contained around 11,946.40 quintals of paddy at the rate of 40 kilograms per bag, thus 5,146.60 quintals of paddy were found to be missing.
